Reginald George Brown was born in Burwell in 1899 (Newmarket Q1-1899 3B:512), son of William and Esther BROWN (née PARR).
1901 census...Aged 2, he was at Heys Lane (Hythe Lane, known locally as "Hee Lane"), Burwell with his father William BROWN [26] stableman born in Burwell and his mother Esther [24] also born in Burwell 1911 census...Aged 12, he was at North Street, Burwell with his parents, brother Horace [8] and sisters Amy [6] and Edna May [11 months), all born in Burwell. |

He enlisted in Newmarket.
The village of Dadizeele was in German hands for most of the Great War until reached by the 36th (Ulster) Division, and taken by the 9th (Scottish) Division, on 29 September 1918. Severe fighting followed on 1 October, at Hill 41, a little south of the village. Dadizeele New British Cemetery is in fact an extension of the communal cemetery. The 1st and 2nd Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers were involved in the action at Hill 41, together with the Royal Irish Fusiliers. 14 of the 1st battalion lost their lives on 1st October.
